Pop Culture and Brandy
Brandy Alexander cocktails have a long affiliation with “the
famous and sophisticated”. Brandy Alexander is a smooth and luxurious cocktail that was
featured during a royal wedding. After its renowned appearance at the wedding of Mary, Princess Royal and
Countess of Harewood and her suitor, Viscount Lascelles, in London, Brandy Alexander has made many more
appearance close to the red carpet and has remained a part of pop culture.
Stars have consumed Brandy Alexanders on sets of movies and TV shows and during
celebratory events over the last century. Among the famous calls are by Jack Lemon in
the Days of Wine and Roses. In one scene Lee Remick receives a Brandy Alexander and is impressed with
the chocolate flavor, yet smooth taste of the drink. In the pilot of the Mary Tyler Moore show the title
character calls for a Brandy Alexander when asked if she would like a drink at her job interview and Peggy on a
blind date in an episode of Mad Men, Indian Summer calls for a Brandy Alexander. Over time other
movies also make reference to this delicious drink.
Memorialized not only on film Brandy Alexander is used in song titles and as
inspiration to musical artists. Feist uses “Brandy Alexander” as song title on their album The
Reminder, and Ron Sexsmith has “Brandy Alexander” as a song on Exit Strategy of the Soul. The Brandy
Alexanders most famous musical fans were members of the Beatles. Both John Lennon and Ringo Starr had a passion for
this coctail and John had been know to endearingly call a Brandy Alexander his milkshake.
These are just a couple examples of how Brandy Alexander has
infiltrated pop culture. While the drink is referenced in songs and viewed on TV, it is also found in print as
the character name in Chuck Palahniuk’s novel Invisible Monsters.
Some have even adopped the name “Brandy Alexander” as their own as the pseudonym of Isabel in Viva Las
Vegas. There is an actress, a wrestler even a Miss Gay American among them. Brandy itself is consumed by film
stars and directors at many parties and events or wherever celebrations occur.
Brandy Alexander is often used in scenes that depict parties and large events. Brandy Alexander is the perfect
drink to enjoy for its taste and relaxing effects. Like most cocktail, Brandy Alexander may help you wind
down or enjoy yourself more in what may otherwise consider tense moments. As these examples show
movie stars, musicians and others have made a wise choice in calling for Brandy Alexanders while
celebrating in real life or on set.
